    Every year all the countries in the world hold a raffle.The raffle consists of a drawing of the names of one boy and one girl in every country. Only the kids of entering high-school age and are upper-class can be entered in the raffle. The kids drawn go to a special school in France where they go through physical and mental examinations. The results of these tests determine which social group they are in. An individual may only be friends with the kids in their assigned social group. Teslin doesn't like this. He is the key to the end of the war, and both sides want him. Haunted by nightmares himself, he must decide the faith of thousands and how they dream forever.
