Do you like sassy, mutant orphans and/or ham & cheese sandwiches? Romance in the time of radioactivity? Maybe the only thing that caught your attention was the picture really cute fish that really have nothing to do with this story--unless you pretend they're a bunch of kids who have, tragically, evolved into sealife--and that's okay. Because whether or not this is the story you've spent your life searching for or you're just hiding from you boatload of responsibilities like the rest of us, well, I'd say this is a pretty good place to hide. The year was 2350. It had been nearly two hundred years since the end of the war and the world was finally regaining its balance. Those who survived the nuclear weapons, fell dead to the bio-weapons, but those who survived-they became the licensed. They were a new race. A sturdy race, an immune race and they needed to keep it that way. The licensed knew that they were strong enough to survive illness and strife, but still few remained who weren't resistant, those who survived by pure dumb luck. The licensed had to protect those few individuals, and in doing so they created the Underground, a place where the unlicensed could live in a sterile society without the fear of disease and disability. Time passed. Laws changed. No longer were the unlicensed treasured and their kingdom fell to an underground slavery. It was time for a change. Beverly Macs saw no problem in the enslaving of the unlicensed, after all they were nothing but uneducated savages. She had felt their hatred first hand, and she decided that she would never be so weak as to allow it to happen again. So when a group of unlicensed kidnap her in a desperate act of rebellion, Beverly fears the worst. But as time passes, she begins to learn of the lies of the licensed.
