A flash of lightning is all it took to turn Takeo Ruka's life upside-down. She is thrown 400 years into the past, into a world of war and bloodshed, but not quite the past she's familiar with from history class. The war is brutal and those a part of it ruthless, particularly one who is feared far and wide for his cold, cruel ways. Despite the sudden change in her life, Ruka settles into the slow, primeval lifestyle with the help of kind, warm-hearted people of a village. While everything seems plain and simple in the beginning, complications soon arise one after the other, rousing unsettling emotions and situations. Offering a moment of unbiased concern and help to a stranger soon turns Ruka into a prisoner, locked away in frightening luxury she cannot escape from. When she's about to give up on ever being happy again, she sees a silver lining. It is then that she realizes that some things are not just what they seem to be on the outside. With truths slowly uncovering, Ruka soon finds the place she wants to be in and the person she wants to be with. But the question is, is she strong enough to overcome the overwhelming obstacles thrown at her that threatens everything she wishes to gain? ~~~~~~~~~~~~ ORIGINAL STORY, PLOT AND CHARACTERS (C) Midnight_Lilac Ranking: #1 in edoperiod

Mori Ōgai's classical novel, "The Wild Geese" or "The Wild Goose" (1911-13, 雁 Gan), was first published in serial form in Japan, and tells the story of unfulfilled love set against a background of social change and Westernization. The story is set in 1880 Tokyo. The novel contains commentary on the changing situation between the Edo and Meiji periods. The characters of the novel are diverse, including not only students preparing for a privileged intellectual life and commoners who provide services to them, but also a pair of highly developed female characters. Mori sympathetically portrays the dilemmas and frustrations faced by women in this early period of Japan's modernization. - Wikipedia -

This is an original story set in the late Edo Period with some fantasy and supernatural elements added. Since the dawn of time, a war has raged between those who fight for the dark and those who defend the light. Born in the year of the ominous Fire Horse but on the hour of the highly revered and vigorous Dragon, regardless of what others say about her birth, Houki has inherited her ancestor's vision as well as his great samurai spirit. However, times are changing, as the era of warriors is drawing to an end. The shogunate that has been a tall, sturdy tree for more than two hundred years, is slowly beginning to rot upon being challenged by the imperial court and several domains who were derided under shogunal rule. Amidst the turbulent times, one group remained true to the old ways and risked their lives to preserve the traditional shogunate system. Fighting as brothers-in-arms, the Shinsengumi upheld the code of honor of the samurai. Old clashed with the new as the age of turmoil is set into motion, but in the darkness lurks much more than political unrest-something much darker... The Tokugawa princess fights to protect the legacy that has been passed down to her, protect her family from the possibility of cessation in the hands of their enemies, and end what no one else can. Cover: *Houki - the woman in the cover's background *Saito Hajime - the one with purple hair and the biggest picture out of all the guys *Harada Sanosuke - the one with brown wavy hair *Hijikata Toshizo - the one with long blue hair in a ponytail *Yamanami "Sannan-san" Keisuke - with green hair and glasses *Todo Heisuke - the one with the braid *Okita Souji - the one with blonde hair *Nagakura Shinpachi - the one with short green hair *Yamazaki Susumu - the one with red hair Note: the pictures of the characters on the cover are not mine, they belong to the otome games Armen Noir, Harukanaru Toki Naka De and Hiiro no Kakera, it's just how I picture them to be.
