The last of the red elves Lyris is taken in by two warriors who happen to have kidnapped the Kings eldest son Vicen. When the king sends his men in and they harm Lyris her powers slip up again and the Shaia is once again revealed leaving them all turned to ashes. Realizing she is the heir to an entire realm and its strategic position kings of each realm make for her heart but Lyris is taken prisoner for their deaths. She quickly finds she must learn to hide her powers and most importantly her feelings when she finds herself in the embrace of a man a king and a rival as they each fight over the crown of the Red Woodland and Lyris's heart.
