When Henrik died, and the family was turned into vampires. Esther Mikaelson slipped her some of the potion and told her to take it and. Kill herself. She was shocked but did it, that is how she became a Original. She lived her life in mystic falls and met a bunch of vampires including Stefan, Damon, and the bitch herself Katherine. She lived her life hearing stories about the love of her life. She was always to scared to go find him so she didn't. Until he came back and finally she saw him again.

You have to get along with you family and keep a low profile, so Mikael doesn't come. You guys meet someone from the past that you thought was dead and secrets are revealed. Rebekah is the only one who knows you are a tribrid, everyone else thinks you are an heritic. (Rebekah and Kol are 4th years in this, you and klaus are 5th years. Elijah is a 6th and Finn is a 7th year. Harry and everyone are 4th years.)
