Somewhere in northern Italy, 1984. Professor Perlman has a new student arriving at the villa for the summer; an average height, 21 year old, ginger haired girl. Her name is Abby. Elio tries to deal with the fact that him and his fling he had last summer is over. He feels as if Abby is just a reminder that his last love was simply immature and temporary. With his new fear of falling in love, and his resentment towards Abby, this summer just seems like any other one before Oliver; entertaining but repetitive. But Elio has his eye on someone new, someone young, someone sweet, shy, tall, with glistening blonde hair and sparkling green eyes- ... Elio doesn't want to feel the same pain he did last summer, but this boy is so tempting...
