Since she was a pre-teen, Elphaba was addicted to romance books. Yes, it does sound out of character for her, but there was nothing she longed for more than love and acceptance. Those books had that, and she actually dreamed of having that kind of love one day. Unfortunately, her especially green condition makes it way more difficult.
She remembers the one time she aread an entirely different book, way different from the usual "meet, flirt, date, marry" books she usually read. It was about a girl who liked a boy, and wanted to know if he liked her back. And she did that using love languages. Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. The boy, who was her childhood friend, had used those love languages towards her at least once. And that's when she knew she could make a move.
But of course, it's just a silly romance book. Those love languages can't really exist, they don't work like that, right?
Or
Elphaba tries to figure out if Galinda loves her back by using love languages.
