Kidapwan is a city not a province where Mt. Apo stands tall, street lights glow warm, and durian fills the air. But when I moved to Manila as a teen, I learned that reality doesn't just take you away from home... it teaches you how to bring home with you."
Growing up in Kidapwan City, Elys world revolved around her parents' love: Papa, a mechanic who worked far from home but always came back smiling, and Mama, who toiled at a mall salon but never failed to bring home pancit, bolalo, or sweet treats. Even though other kids bullied Elys and she spent most days inside their house, life was good - quiet, safe, and anchored by the sight of Mt. Apo.
At fourteen, her family moves to Manila for better work. Suddenly, she's in a world of tall buildings and roaring jeepneys, where her accent and Kidapwan ways make her a target for bullies. She switches schools three times, and even some relatives look down on her, saying hurtful things about her family and how she carries herself. As a teenager with no clear career path yet, she feels lost and alone in the fast-paced city.
But when she joins her school's photography club and shares shots of her hometown - its sunsets, street lights, and famous mountain - everything starts to change. Slowly, she learns that her roots in Kidapwan aren't something to hide... they're the light that will help her find her place under Manila's skies.
