Setelah ayahnya meninggal di Belanda, Yos yang tidak punya siapa-siapa lagi memutuskan untuk kembali ke Indonesia, hanya untuk mendapati rumah keluarganya telah dijadikan kediaman seorang perwira Jepang yang terkenal kejam namun jenius, Kitaro. Setelah berhasil memperdaya Kitaro dalam suatu taruhan, akhirnya Yos diizinkan tinggal di rumahnya kembali. Walaupun berasal dari bangsa yang bermusuhan, tanpa disadari keduanya menjadi dekat dan benih cinta pun pelan-pelan tumbuh, namun kemudian Jepang kalah perang dan harus angkat kaki dari Indonesia.

In 1989, a group of four Scientists continued their formation in a working order as they set out to establish and evaluate readings through the subconscious mind from inducing Extended Deep Sleep (EDS) to gain information by those selected volunteers in every possibility including elements of the future despite the actions undertaken that could go in any direction just as well for elements from the past. The name for EDS was later changed to ELS (Extended Long Sleep) by reasons undisclosed. Project "Penumbra 31F" is a tip-of-the-hat that acknowledges an object that blocks the pathway of light and creates a shadow. Beyond the lines of so-called witchcraft, beyond the computer age and far superior to that of A.I. ... beyond the shadowzone!
