Hawkins, Indiana: 1984. Max Mayfield is struggling with her new life in this small town, and her new stepdad and stepbrother don't make it any easier. She eventually meets a small group of kids her age, although their "leader", Mike Wheeler, doesn't seem too fond of her. She decides to stick closer to Lucas and Dustin during school. After having to skate home from school one day, she goes to an abandoned house in the middle of the woods; she always goes there to clear her head. But then, she meets a mysterious, goth girl named Eleven who is seemingly in a gang. Not only does she realize this is the girl who Mike and Lucas have talked about, but she also realizes this girl has *powers.* She's completely amazed. She decides not to tell the rest of the Party about her discovery... Who knows what kind of adventures she and El could have?

This is an Elmax story, but there is a different plot. This story is if El/Jane never got captured, and she has to hide her powers. The only people who know she has powers is her mother and sister, there will be original characters added to make the story my lively.

The characters here are not 100% true to their canon personalities or how you'd expect. They have more insecurities and are more internal than verbal. These are my versions of these characters they are not gonna be perfect versions that look like they're written by the duffers themselves, this is essentially me projecting my own writing and stories onto my favorite characters and ships. If you dislike it don't read, I haven't written publicly in like 2 years so please don't expect perfection, honestly.

( slow burn, no upside down/powers; elevens name is just el; takes place right after they became friends but that happened sooner in the summer; hopper is el's adoptive dad; her biological dad is martin brenner who's in prison for abusing her, and her mom isn't alive; there's confusion, angst, a little fluff, lowkey slowburn and excessive gay panic )

"Girls like girls like boys do, nothing new." It's Winter 1986 and the Byers and El are visiting Hawkins for one week - but things get messy fast. Max has been keeping her hidden feelings for El secret from all her friends, doubting the possibility that El would ever like her back. But as the week progresses, El catches herself feeling something she can't quite understand, and it becomes clear that El and Max aren't "just friends".

Eleven and Max are planning temporary revenge to get their boyfriend's back. But...is it all just for show?
