When the first darkness came, the skies turned to ash.
The kingdoms believed a great wildfire had consumed the horizon... That was before the riders emerged from the smoke.
Headless horsemen. Twisted monstrosities and an army that swept across the land without mercy. Leading the charge, the proclaimed Queen of Flame.
The kingdom of Uxord fell first. Its scholars and mages, masters of knowledge and arcane power, were powerless against the Queen's relentless advance. Ordmouth stood next. This time, the people were ready.
Among them rose a single hero. Amilee.
Amilee managed to wound the False Queen where entire armies had failed. But the victory came at a terrible price, captured as their prisoner Amilee was taken into the Ashlands. The scorched home of the Queen's lair, she was never seen again.
And then... The war ended.
No final battle. No triumph. No explanation.
Only silence.
For thirty years, the ancient prophecy has warned that the darkness is not defeated-only waiting. That one day the False Queen will rise again, stronger than before, to finish what she began.
So every generation sends its finest to Grildon, the shining capitol where the Hero's Trials forge warriors worthy of standing against her should she rear her head once more. Within the castle halls hangs Amilee's portrait, a reminder of both courage and sacrifice, and a promise that when the darkness returns, the kingdoms will be ready.

Instead, he finds a world where old legends no longer fit the truth.
Because history remembers its heroes.... but it does not always remember honestly.
