He knew of 'its' presence before the others, the lingering whispers and calls in the staticy trenches where his dreams lay weak like a baby bird. He knew of it's yearning and neediness that made it call out in the late of night with the broken call of songbirds and radios that dialed to a tone reminiscent of the TVs that used to lose their pictures when it came around. He knew of 'its' presence. He hated it.
