Believe me, if a person is dead and sticking around on this planet it is not because of the free food samples or pony rides. When a person dies and lingers like bad breath, it's usually because they've either A) done something really horrible and can't move on, B) something terrible was done TO them and they can't move on, or C) they have left something unfinished or unsaid. Most of the time people simply do not say "I love you." People prefer to avoid talk of death and dying. I don't blame them- if I could avoid seeing dead people all the time I would. I often regret this 'gift.' Especially like when I was digging up a murder victim on the far side of Manhattan out of somebody's back yard and the police came, called by the neighbor. Explaining how I found human remains from a murder victim in 1808 in an old ladies' flower bed? Not exactly easy. "You're going to come with us." Officer Grumpy-pants glowered at me, waving the flashlight over what I had pulled up among the tulips. "Drop that right now!"
