He looked at the other man, unable to deny that the Senator had piqued his interest. "You see" the Senator cleared his throat. "our Septimius Severus liked to beat his sons, our big emperors" he added sarcastically. "like it was demanded by the gods. All day, every day. Everyone knew he had a temper; his sons had the misfortune to see the most of it. But they took it, without a word, letting their mother comfort them. But the old man made a mistake and raised his hand at their loved one just once." He put up a finger to give weight to his words. "In two days, we held a funeral, in a week Geta and Caracalla were emperors." "The old man died in his sleep. His heart gave out." Macrinus said tilting his head and Thraex started to laugh. "Of course, and the taster, who tried Septimius' food that day, that very night, his heart gave out too." he scoffed, emptying his goblet. "You want to keep your head my friend, you stay away from our sweet, Empress Marcella."
