Ale nic nie jest już takie, jak było. Ich miłość przeszła próbę wyznania, pierwszego zbliżenia i rodzinnych spojrzeń pełnych domysłów. Noszą swoje imiona przy szyjach, jakby były zaklęciami. Idą przez szkolne korytarze splecionymi dłońmi. I wszyscy widzą. Ale miłość... to nie zawsze światło. W cieniu starych murów rodzi się coś nowego. Coś obcego. Akademia żyje szeptami o zniknięciach, o głosach w ścianach, o cieniu, który nie ma właściciela. A kiedy do Nevermore dołącza Pugsley Addams - z pozoru tylko nowy uczeń, a w rzeczywistości nosiciel starych instynktów i nieświadomy świadek czegoś większego - dziewczyny zaczynają rozumieć, że to nie będzie zwykły semestr. Wednesday, rozdarta między chłodnym rozsądkiem a narastającym uczuciem, zaczyna odsuwać się od Enid. Ucieka w milczenie, w analizę, w mrok, który zna lepiej niż samą siebie. Enid czuje to pierwsza. I boli. Kiedy relacja zaczyna się kruszyć, gdy zaufanie zostaje zachwiane, a spojrzenia przestają być oczywiste - pojawia się pytanie: czy ich miłość wytrzyma coś więcej niż tylko pierwszy raz?
