In a City completely separated by a protection boundary. Newly matured must enrol for their right to belong. Every year hundreds of sixteen year olds do all they've learnt to prove their worth. But the protection layer can't hold everyone and so some must be sacrificed. "Not all those who are born to the city belong to the City" However Violet is different. Violet has always just simply... belonged. Belonged to a City that she has grown to hate. And on her journey through the secrets of the City and the Outside World. They will learn that Violet in fact doesn't belong. And that they have made the biggest mistake yet - believing that she ever did.
