Submission 2 #WattpadShortys2025 - Baboons Witness (Acrostic Poem) A structured acrostic that captures the essence of environmental testimony in 16 lines. Using the phrase BABOONS WITNESS, this piece distills the crisis into sharp, haunting verses that echo the prose poem's themes while standing powerfully on its own. Word Count: ~80 words Genre: Structured Environmental Poetry Image by @thatgregwilliams

Backstory: The Cape Peninsula Civil Conservation (CPCC) has strongly criticised the planned removal - and possible killing - of up to 120 baboons from the Cape Peninsula, calling it "deeply shocking." The CPCC expressed concern about ethical, social, and ecological consequences. This follows a recent announcement by the Cape Peninsula Baboon Management Joint Task Team (CPBMJTT), which includes SANParks, CapeNature and the City of Cape Town, that five splinter baboon troops could be removed as part of their updated management plan, ("Cape Peninsula task team reveals innovative strategies for baboon management," Echo). These are not innovative strategies, this will entail the killing of about 120 baboons. Here is my poem about this and a call to action to oppose this.
