The City of Mirrors is the first volume in The Unfinished Cause Series: Historical Voices Confront the Present. It is a political allegory inspired by the spirit of Harvey Milk's lifelong belief that visibility, dignity, and hope are among the most powerful forces for social change.
In a city built entirely of mirrors, a new government known as the Custodians begins covering reflections it deems "improper." Under the guise of protecting society, they erase people from schools, libraries, hospitals, and even history itself. As healthcare access, personal identity, and civil rights come under attack, ordinary citizens are pressured to disappear quietly.
But the people targeted for erasure refuse to vanish.
Through the eyes of teachers, doctors, activists, and a young boy who proudly carries both his national flag and a flag representing his identity, the story explores the struggle between fear and freedom, conformity and authenticity, power and humanity.
Blending satire, compassion, and sharp social commentary, The City of Mirrors is a modern fable about the danger of denying people the right to define themselves-and the enduring power of visibility, community, and hope in the face of intolerance.
