"We live in a society Where people would Rather talk to their Phones than to the Person in front of them. Where there are more People with eating Disorders than there Are people with green Eyes. Where 1 in every 8 Students suffer from Self-harm. Where people Get killed for the colour Of their skin. Where they Teach people to not get Raped rather than don’t Rape. Where men are Told that they can’t be “Sissy”. Where women Are told they can’t Be a “butch.” Where The perfect woman Has a thigh gap, Big breasts and A tiny waist. Where The perfect man doesn’t Cry and has abs. Where School is about passing Rather than learning Where a man said: I can’t breathe, I can’t Breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, I Can’t breathe, I can’t Breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t Breathe, I can’t breathe, I can’t breathe, before He was released. Where kids die every Day from taking their Lives. Where They tell you to be Yourself but judge You till you break. Where 3 or more people In every class suffer from A mental disorder. Where men are stuck In abusive relationships. Where there are abusive Relationships. Where Parents don’t love Their children. Where Children don't love Their parents. Where Girls are forced to Change because their Bodies are “distractions”. Where boys are taught That not being a virgin is Manly. Where kids Prefer to drink illegal Substances than do Homework. Where school Is more important than Your mental health. Where women can’t Have “casual sex” Because they’re too Emotional. Where Black people protesting Are called terrorists. Where 1 in every 3 Women experience Sexual assault by the Time they leave university. Where people say “Men can’t get raped.” Where women are Looked at as objects. Where people are against Each other. Where diet Pills are cheaper than Medication. Where a Majority of the world Is homeless. Where we Destroy smaller Countries for our Benefits. We live in A self destructive Society. And we Need to stop"

#HandsUpDontShoot #MemphisCantBreathe #BlackLivesMatter This was my response to the recent reckless actions of those sworn to protect and serve our "great" nation. RIP to Ezell Ford, Eric Garner, Michael Brown; as well as Trayvon Martin and Kendrick Johnson who were not murdered by police officers but influenced me all the same. There is a growing state of anarchy in our country. This poem is called hysteria due to the genuine fear and unrest myself and many others feel. We're afraid to even go outside at this point. This is not meant to offend anyone, its just how I vented. Love, Peace, and Kindness yall. xoxo Britt❤

Spoken word poetry is poetry that has to be said aloud to make sense... Although I prefer to say it's colloquial poetry that's easy for the reader to understand... They don't have to unjangle chains of metaphors or heaps of similes... It's just the writer, speaking to the reader, and explaining their story...

I wrote this in honor of black history month, also as a tribute for past protest fighting for the many black lives we unjustly lost to police brutality. LOL, I'm so sorry. "There they were, the children of African kings and queens......"

This book will be about what I think about what is going on in 2020 and I'm sick of it. It will just be about my opinion and what I know about this whole year. Some of it will be about the coronavirus, but most of it will be about black lives.
