Erwin was a member of the school's marching band and wanted to become a teacher like his father. Levi was still unsure of what he wanted to do for the rest of his life but he still did his best in school. However, he had one large setback that prevented him from doing a lot of things he wanted. He'd been diagnosed with a mysterious disease that was un-cureable but was at the very least manageable. One fateful day when they are put into a group for a project together, Erwin and Levi meet for the first time. As they work on the project, the two begin to grow closer and closer to each other until they eventually form a romantic relationship. One day however, Levi's condition takes a drastic turn for the worse and Erwin has to place his hope and faith in what most believe to be fiction in order to save Levi's life. (Just under 30,000 words as of chapter 10)

Erwin notices with certainty that Levi will not eat meat. He thinks it might have something to do with the recent deaths of his friends. //Or, Levi is allowing himself to waste away because he is tired of losing his loved ones, so he sort of just stops trying to go on.
