She shortens her surname to Cliff and abhors all other short forms of her name. Emma was the only acceptable short form as it held no painful memories. However, it takes just one day for fate to toss the past she was running from right to her face. After trying to slide past it again, she was hit by the waves of fate on its highest currents. Everyone was asking her about her child; her mother, her father and Jerry. He took the excuse that she owed him a child to keep resurfacing in her life and she fell in love with him again. Then she finds out that Jerry was Perkins' older cousin. None of them was ready to give up for the other. She becomes torn between her passionate love for her childhood sweetheart and a duty of gratitude for his younger cousin.
