I took small steps and stopped in front of her, making her lift her head up. A small gasp left her mouth as her eyes met mine. I could see fear and confusion in her eyes. I lightly grasped both her arms which made her flinch.
"Did you see him?" I asked in a calm voice, trying not to scare her. She stood numb, not knowing who I was referring to. I re-framed my sentence. "A black guy, tall and bulky?"
"Y-yes." She whispered in her soft voice, looking down. Had I not been this close to her, I would have not heard it. But it was not new as people are scared when I stand in front of them.
