When Grace, a 14 year old girl and her 5 year old brother Jack have to evacuate to the country because of the bombings in London, it becomes a scary and worrisome task especially due to the fact that Grace had lost the memory of her family due to a heavy bomb. This doesn't stop her taking her younger brother with her due to the pleading of his mother. They then meet a boy and his farther who kindly take them into their home on a farm where they settle in nicely. But can all this change in a heartbeat?

Maddison tries to be strong, but when you are torn apart from your family because of war it is very hard. On the train journey she meets a boy who she instantly sympathises with. Is this the start of a new friendship? Or something more?
