Ash is pretty decent at pretending to be sociable. He just doesn't have any close relationships where he's comfortable enough to be genuine. He lived most of his life in the city, and he expected life to stay that way until he moved. Mira likes people, and people like him. He's the kind of guy that fits in because he's nice and adaptable.
