Long ago, before the Nanite event, there was another experiment occurring involving a scientist a part of said event. This one experiment is the very reason why he avoided effects of the nanite explosion. When this person returned from where he came from, he found the world has changed and his people have turned into monsters. They are a friend group of fellow misfits, weirdos, freeks, and nerds. He quickly fits in with them.
