This is a short, dark story I wrote when I was in a mood, that involved an existential crisis. I wouldn't recommend this for young children, or if you're afraid of the dark. Unless you like being scared. But its not really that scary. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Could be considered paranormal, I guess.

One June night Amara Williams meets Emanuel Avetti, after a series of events push them together. Will they overcome their fears and struggles to end up together, Read to find out. "I've got only one blanket..." I said trailing off. Uhhh we only had one shelter to, being so close to him would be..., I don't really know. I was close to no one, not even my parents. I sighed, I wanted to be. But actions are harder than words. "Sharing or not is okay with me, it's up to you." he said while feeding the fire, I couldn't say no. Doing that would be rude in my opinion, I would have to get over it.

Updates: 2 chapters every week ------------------------------------------------------------ The world is perfect. Or so they say. Life is carefully controlled on a day to day basis under the eye of the omnipotent Premier, who presides over the Structure. Every aspect of the precious human race from birth to death is planned. The society has only one goal in mind: to design a flawless race of humans. Every three years, everyone goes through the “Ascension”, a test of mental dexterity in order to weed out those with flawed genes. Those who fail to pass the Ascension are permanently removed from the gene pool and are never heard from again. Through the use of eugenics, each person is assigned a life-long Counterpart, a person that would help produce the most genetically diverse offspring. Those who lose their Counterparts through unfortunate circumstance are labeled “barren” and forced to the bottom rung of the social ladder. Problems arise when Chroma, a girl who had been barren most of her life, develops feelings for her best friend Fledge. The moment she realizes these feelings, everything falls apart. All odds are against her tabooed relations with Fledge. Every moment becomes a struggle between life and death, between sanity and insanity. Chroma will have to fight tooth and limb if she expects to survive to the next Ascension. ------------------------------------------------------------ Note: The original cover image was a picture taken by j0s2m21 on DeviantArt.
