Grantaire became a magician at a young age, though always preferred painting. Still, magic is art, and as long as Grantaire got paid, he was happy. That was until he met Enjolras, a blond skeptic. Determined to prove magic isn't just scams and robbery, Grantaire tries to teach his love of magic. Though things get complicated as the two are pulled into painful mistakes. Les Misérables modern AU. Enjolras is killed at a protest, ripping Les Amis apart. How will they cope with the tragedy?

A frozen lake. A truth. A risk. It had been a year since the Incident with Grantaire, and Enjolras wasn't any closer to getting over it. And neither was Grantaire. Enjolras would've done anything to see Grantaire again and Grantaire the same. And yet, on a cold week in January, both of them will deeply regret their choices.

An Enjoltaire Modern Au

A man who took good care to believe in nothing found himself believing. Not in a dogma, an idea, an art or a science but in a man. An idealist planning a revolution. The cynic follows, not because he believes in the ideas of his Apollo, but because without his Apollo he would not be whole. So he follows, silently fighting in his own revolution. He invites you to sit down and drink with him as he tells you all about it.

"He's beautiful, right?" Combeferre winced. He looked at Grantaire, who was still looking somewhere in the void. Even so, he could see his eyes glitter with something he hadn't seen before. Confusion? Sadness? Loneliness? He didn't like the look. He reminded him too much of himself. This is how he looked every time he looked in the mirror and thought of Enjolras. Combeferre suddenly laughed. His gorgeous laugh echoed through the silence. He shook his head, dropped a piece of the cigarette to the ground, stepped on it, and grab another one. "How long?"

Enjolras absolutely despises Grantaire. That's a fact Grantaire can live with, however -- or, at least, he could.
