Then he turns back to me staring at me silently, his mouth drawn in a straight line. "Why are you a villain?" I repeat, his blue-gray eyes hold a brewing storm. "Because I have no reason to be a hero." _________________________________________________ My world is far from ordinary. It may sound cliché, but it's true. Normalcy was thrown out the window since our city has living, breathing superheroes. They protect us from the wide range of threats that jeopardize the safety of Crystal City. And yes, they do wear spandex and have stupid catchphrases, but they also do things that the comic books like to avoid. Which seems great, unless you're the very thing they are protecting against. Being the bad guy is cool and all, stealing candy from babies and robbing banks and all that, but it's not all it's cracked up to be either. I'm Lyrah Hodges, and as a part-time supervillian, I know this better than anyone.

Hello, my fellow readers. Welcome to my chapbook :) . Before you begin reading, I'd like to point out something very obvious. I'm not really the type of person to write about "happy" things, like vanilla milkshakes and love-because why write about something that you don't feel, right? I'm more of an emotional type of person. I write down what I bottle inside. Anyways, I chose these poems because they each tell a story about a journey that I'm sure at least a few of you have traveled to, or are still traveling to today. It's a journey that nobody likes, full of bumpy roads and fog. That journey is called the journey of depression. Each and every one of these poems have a meaning behind them. It's not just about getting people to read my work, it's more of a coping skill against my emotions-because let's face reality, you have two choices on how you're going to escape this journey.
