It's only been a few weeks since the Traveler made the ultimate sacrifice and watched her old life die away. It was gone, no going back now. The plane went down. The funeral was held. The grave was dug only to be empty. Her old life was reduced to nothing but memories. Her mirror room was supposed to be her escape from guilt and regret. Her escape from everything. And yet it taunts her with the memory of what she's done. She's seen the grave, she knows the name engraved on the top. The way the room decided to taunt her takes her by surprise but helps her realize that maybe, just maybe, the choice was inevitable.

We cautiously walked towards the cockpit in darkness. The guy was dead. And we were crash landing. And oh, how convenient. All of the parachutes weren't there. Then the realization came: someone else is-or was-on the plane with us. Fear was choking me. I felt myself flying up from the floor and screamed. I closed my eyes as my body hit the roof of the plane and knocked the wind out of me. Charlie seemed to stay silent, even though I wasn't sure she was calm. Then the fall started. My body collapsed on the floor, and I went sliding forward. I managed to block my face from the hit with a nearby wall. I guess that's why seat belts exist. My sister suffered a similar fate once I glanced over at her. Then I did the unthinkable. I (somehow) with superhuman strength, stood up, gave my sister a hand, and climbed through the rows. I opened the emergency exit. What was left of my hair was blowing around my face. I saw the sea under us... and I... Yes. I jumped. Charlene followed-probably because I did. On the way down-even though the air was blocking most of my hearing-I heard Charlie scream something like, "YOU STUPID IDIOT!" to me. My body flared with pain once I touched the water, even though I tried to fall head-down. I swam as quickly as I could forward and soon... I saw... LAND! I looked back and saw Charlie keeping up with me. I knew she saw the island too. I swam faster, pushing myself harder-luckily I did have swim classes. I tried not to think about anything that could be in the water as I swam. Finally I tumbled onto the sand, and collapsed. Charlie was-somehow-more energetic. She sat calmly, observing the island. Now it was up to us to survive.

How difficult it is to actually know who you are? To tell the difference between the real you and the way the world gradually shaped a shell around you that all the people see? And what if the shell suddenly disappeared and you were left with only the raw core of your being, no memories, no messed up beliefs, no sense of your past hunting your every action? ... And what if your past starts catching up to you, revealing all the filth your mind used to bathe in - what then? This story centres around a post-head injury Jim navigating his way through dangerous friendships, unexpected explosions and the mess that is his mind. (And hatred for yellow, can't forget Jim's hatred for yellow.) _____________ • Work in progress - yes, I really AM working on it, even though at snail's pace xD. "I didn't have it in myself to go with grace." What would you do if you had to make the tough choice of living the life you wanted but risking your loved one's in the process or sacrificing that life to save them? For the Traveler, the answer was obvious, but it didn't hurt any less. This story follows the Traveler after her choice to fake her death. Written in the first person with a style mimicking that of Junot Diaz, we see her thoughts and regret firsthand. After all, it's not every day you fake your death. Italics are lyrics from "my tears ricochet" by Taylor Swift
