La sua neurokatana vibrava come se fosse dotata di coscienza. Non era soltanto un'arma, ma un'estensione del suo corpo e della sua memoria. Ogni incisione sulla lama era un voto rituale, ogni linea un giuramento inciso nel codice. Quando la impugnava, il metallo sembrava respirare, e il respiro si confondeva con quello della città. La lama era collegata al suo sistema nervoso, e ogni emozione, ogni dubbio, ogni frammento di onore corrotto si rifletteva nel suo bagliore. Era una lama vivente, e il samurai era soltanto il suo custode.

Questo racconto è del 1991. Avevo 20 anni, mi stavo per maturare (ho perso un anno al primo scientifico) e divoravo libri di fantascienza due a due, nella speranza che diventassero dispari. Avevo la testa infarcita di nozioni di informatica farraginose, non possedevo ancora un computer (avevo venduto il commodore 64 qualche mese prima per pagarmi il viaggio a Parigi con la scuola) e tutto avrei mai pensato tranne che sarebbe stato pubblicato su MC Microcomputer cosa che non solo è accaduta, ma pure con un assegno a pagamento del lavoro svolto. Molto è passato da quei tempi, la tecnologia ha seguito strade incredibili e impensabili (son trascorsi 26 anni!) e ho deciso di ripubblicare la storia, magari con qualche aggiustatina dovuta all'esperienza accumulata nel frattempo.

On his arduous journey he will encounter evil characters who will stop at nothing to achieve power, but he will also find people ready to risk their own lives to help him complete his important mission: to free the Human race from the forces of evil. Chester, who at the beginning feigned madness to escape a prison sentence, will ultimately give up his existence for the common good, saving the lives of his unexpected, but much beloved children.
