There will never be another new light born in the universe. The last conventional star has burned out, leaving the universe cloaked in darkness. Only a single artificial star, "Last Light"-left behind by multiple ancient hyper-civilizations-faintly illuminated the cold, empty space. Gathered there beneath it were four lonely entities, each having traveled to witness the final moments of the universe. There was Nukumi, a machine intelligence who continuously purges her own memories just to keep functioning. Tomoru, a light-based lifeform from a species that possesses no concept of individuality. Utai, an integrated psyche housing trillions of individual personalities whose voices constantly intertwine. And Tokio, the last living human, who survived a staggering one hundred and eighty thousand years entirely alone. Though they could neither perceive each other's physical forms nor truly grasp one another's concepts, they shared a quiet, lingering dialogue beneath the star's fading glow. Is it a noble thing to preserve memories, or is the eternal present moment all that truly matters? Facing the end of existence, this is the story of the singular truth found by those who have lived through the depths of eternity. A beautiful yet melancholic sci-fi ensemble drama, unfolding amidst the silence and the starlight.

*Note: This is based off an old and discontinued story that had its outline scrapped and reworked to fit the prompts for the ONC. Essentially, a new book for this competition. Only the core concept, title and the protagonist's name are kept the same.* ----- A ribbon, a hair-clip, a pen, a notebook and a radio, held in the arms of a sixteen year old girl... ... It's been four hundred of years since The Rot ravaged the world and sent people downward with its decaying touch, four hundred years since humanity has inhaled even a breath of fresh air and twenty years since the first fifth-generation child was born in the shelters deep underground. And now, beneath the poisoned earth at the edge of the world, only six of them remain living in the last surviving shelter, the last surviving Lifelight illuminating a darkened board. For the rest were claimed by The Rot. Protected at all costs, older generations shields the worst of the consequences, the worst of the panic, but truth cannot be hidden forever. With increasing tensions and increasing crime, it becomes clear that there are only two outcomes: to die in strife or to die in silence. That is, until an inexplicable hope presents itself in the form of a radio transmission originating from the single most uninhabitable place on Earth, the surface. But it's too late, too late for most, other than the most protected, the youngest, the fifth generation. The waiting game is over and now it's a race against time. Before The Rot reaches them, before they run out of supplies, the handful of survivors must reach out and find the source of the transmission. From this, there are only two possible results: death or a secured future. *Cover done by the amazing @toruinagod*

In a world where power is currency, the empire depends on survival depends on strategic alliances, economic dominance, and control of public perception. The whispers and loyalties are bought and sold, and in this story explores the delicate balance between idealism and pragmatism; for a few, prosperity comes with the cost of many as well as the sacrifices required to wield authority in an unstable world, the pursuit of stability reveals a chilling truth; that the price is always paid by those with least to give.

Imma let this keep a mystery factor to it. When I have enough of my storys posted things should make sense, so furst off a maanlup is a Canid being that can stand and move in both feral and humanoid ways. The Maanlup also have electrical and magnetic abilitys. Kyohi is from a race of a collective hivemind called the Ecus, he was recently disconnected from the collective and now is exploring the world of freewill. The female in the story is Sovno, I never refer her by her name because I don't like calling a character by their name unless they have been addressed by it. Sovno is a mutant in the sense she doesn't have a strong magnetic field and her the plazma she creates is dramatically stronger than normal Maanlup plazma. Also keep in mind im not happy with my weighting in this at all, thats why im practicing. Im thinking of putting this in the novel when i have a more polished version but as of now this definitely isn't something im proud of other then it being the birth of Amber who is my favorite character to write by far.

Perpetua is at the end of time. She's been here before. The Valkyrie at the End of Time is a story about death and rebirth, frustrated passions, ineffable convictions, and the disorientation of living both in the far future and with the distant past. The Valkyrie at the End of Time is also an experimental, non-linear, "cut-up" story. Except for the Introduction (which is tagged as such), every update ("memory") can be read in any order, and any amount of memories may be omitted. The story updates each Tuesday. These are only half of Perpetua's memories. The other half can be read by subscribing to my Patreon @ https://www.patreon.com/junesayers/
