Grief doesn't leave when the funeral ends. It moves in. It rearranges your furniture, sleeps in your bed, and calls itself normal by the third month. I used to think I knew what forever meant. Fifteen years of it - of someone knowing exactly how I take my coffee, exactly which silences needed filling and which ones didn't. And then one Tuesday, forever became a word I couldn't use anymore. Now I live in the after. I study in a corner booth of a cafe that smells like cinnamon and burnt espresso, because home is too quiet and my own thoughts are too loud. I've gotten good at being alone in public. Good at looking busy. Good at making sure no one gets close enough to leave. Then he starts showing up. Late, tired, hair still damp from practice, ordering the same drink every night like it's a ritual instead of a coincidence. He doesn't ask me why I'm always here. He doesn't ask me why I flinch at kindness. He just... stays. Pulls up the chair across from me like it's already his. I don't know how to let someone in without believing I'll lose them too. I don't know if I'm allowed to be happy while she's gone. But Felix keeps showing up anyway - steady, patient, impossibly warm - like he's decided I'm worth the wait. This isn't a story about getting over it. It's about learning to carry it. And maybe, somewhere between the coffee and the quiet and him, learning how to want a forever again.
