When Joan Watson meets Sherlock Holmes the enigmatic, private detective, she can't help but be intrigued by her endless deductions. Holmes, also enticed by Watson's mask of normality, sees an opportunity. But things aren't what they seem. As Sherlock battles with not only her dark past and her burning but unrealistic desire for a friend a new player emerges from the shadows. Both women are thrust into a dangerous battle of wits with an elusive killer. The game is on and Joan has to decide: is Holmes really worth risking the only life she knows?

After escaping her abusive father, Gwendolyn Brook arrives to London, suitcase in hand, and prepared to face the world head-on. Unfortunately for her, her dreams are crushed when she finds her boss murdered in the middle of the National Art Gallery. Destroyed and without a job, she decides to help her new landlady, a self-called "crime aficionado" and "amateur detective," solve the mystery in exchange for rent. Or a 19th Century Cozy Mystery based on an au I had for Sherlock.

Sherlock had picked out the ring weeks ago. It was perfect, a thin silver band with the word forever etched on the inside. She already knew Joan's ring size, had deduced it the day after they met, and already knew when she was going to ask. It was all lined up amazingly. Like an immaculate tower of cards. Oh but it only takes a push of the wind to blow down even the highest tower. And how it would blow.
