My name is Aisha Aliyu . But in boarding school, I answered to "JSS1!". 🥲❤️🔥🥲
The day I arrived at Federal Government Girls' College, I was eleven years old with a metal cup my mom gave me, and a heart full of fear. By nightfall, Senior Blessing AKA Savage had confiscated my provisions, and House Mistress had taught me that "Yes, Senior" was the only prayer that worked.
That metal cup became my witness. It held my Lipton with rain water kept on the sun in the mornings when the harmattan was brutal. It held garri with sugar or salt when hunger knocked at 2am. And on the nights I couldn't be strong, it held my tears. Because in Dorm 4, you learn to cry quietly. No evidence, abeg.
JSS1 to SS3 is a journey nobody prepares you for. From scrubbing seniors' buckets to becoming the senior everyone feared. From homesick letters to sneaking out after lights out. They said boarding school would make me a woman. What they didn't say was that I'd have to break first. Shatter. Then gather the pieces myself.
I'm still standing. My cup is dented, but it doesn't leak. This is my story. My bunk. My scars. If you've ever hidden tears in a metal cup, then you already know.
Are you ready to walk the halls of Dorm 4, join me on this journey of survival and reclaim your own story ...
