[Of Monsters and Us Contest Entry] "Kill them before they infect you, less you endanger others." The world has fallen into a new age of apocalypse. Red lines marked the necks of the monsters' preys and the black lines marked those who were safe. Monsters, the turned, man-eaters, they go by many names. But 'Grays' was what those undead creatures which appeared at night generally go by. Known to crave the meat of the ones marked red. The only known thing to save one from them were hearts of the ones marked with black. They could also choose to kill them, but a normal human with no magic could not easily achieve such feat. My book is called fighting for our lives and it is about a group of 8 kids trying to survive a zombie apocalypse while being the last people on earth or so they think. Their whole world is thrown upside down when one of their friends gets turned into a zombie and they find out he has been working with the person who is responsible for all the man-eating robot zombies Dr. A. They find out that there is a switch in Texas that will turn off all the zombies. All they have to do is get to Texas turn off the switch and save the world easy right, wrong they don't have cars or planes so that means Novah, Mia, Oaklynn, Taylor, Tyler Jaxtyn, Eli and Karsyn have to walk 522h to Texas. During their journey, they have ups and downs but in the end, they make it to Texas and save the world, but they will never guess what will happen to them in the final chapter 10 years after they save the world. "It happened so fast I don't even remember how it started: all I remember is waking up one day to the screams of my sister and I ran to see what happened and to my surprise, there were our parents seizing on the ground looking more dead than they have ever looked"
