Dailyn Lafortaleza is a Puerto Rican-Cuban middle schooler who lives in the north of Denver with her father. She's considered hysterical, and no one ever dares to approach her, except for a handful of people you could easily count on one hand. For some time now, young boys no older than thirteen have been disappearing one after another - no clues, no traces, nothing at all. One morning, a boy vanishes; the next week, another is added to the list. No one knows whether they're still alive or not. Dailyn feels a shameful sense of relief, believing she's somewhat safe, convinced that the Grabber only goes after boys her age. Never once does she imagine that, once again in her life, she'll be the exception.
