This story follows the life of a young woman named Abigail whose world is heavily affected and changed after she meets beings known as kalman väki, meaning "death folk", a type of spirit in Finnish folklore. Abigail struggles with herself as she tries to discover the nature and reality of those she meets along her path and faces the truths and lies of life and death and what lies beyond. Some characters and storylines are influenced by real people in the author's life. Permission has been given by those people. Any likeness to other characters or people is coincidental and unintentional. All characters are copyright by the author and those involved in the creation of the characters and storyline.

It is said to take the person to a fairytale land (based around Korea) in an alternate universe. In order to impress a beautiful young woman named Luna Lylastien, Jimin Packalen, a hockey player, takes up singing lessons to out-perform Robin Nieminen, her current boyfriend. He learns all about this mysterious legendary ball and gets possession of it. He can't sing, but he does happen to have a secret other talent... Will it be enough to steal Luna's heart?

To Jay the world was made of villains and victims, nothing more and nothing less. There were no heroes in real life, no knights on a shining armor that would save poor, weak people in danger just for the sake of it. Good men were a myth, something out of fairy tales. But then something eerie comes to his town, -or perhaps it was always around- and he finds himself stuck in situations where he questions those beliefs more often than not. Maybe he was right about there not being heroes in the real world, but maybe those villains people wrote about on fairy tales, and in whom he'd believed his entire life weren't that real either.

Author Charles Wilkins wrote a note to me about "The Tale of the Ptarmigans" in his book, "Walk to New York" "By the way I liked your baseball story. Did I ever say so"?

This Poem is by Finnish poet Timo K. Mukka, my favorite Poet of all time. The Finnish Version was Featured in HIM's song 'Behind the Crimson Door' During the middle 8 section.

'Ghosts don't exist!' Jared heard one of the Soviet's snap exasperatedly. 'There's one in these hills,' His friend grinned. 'They call him the Finnish Ghost. Legend said we killed him and he's back for revenge.' Jared smiled to himself silently. He brough up his pistol and fired it between their two heads. Both of them snapped upright in alarm, spinning around. Shouts of alarm and surprise echoed throughout the camp. The first soldier's eyes landed on him, and his eyes widened. His mouth gaped. 'I do exist,' Jared said, in his broken Russian. 'I'm right behind you.'
