Thirty-four years have passed since the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War. During that time, thousands of systems once ruled by the dreaded Empire have joined the New Republic, instilling in trillions a new age of peace. However, a threat from the Unknown Regions known as the First Order plans to destroy the fledgling Republic. Rising up to combat the tyranny, Republic senator and Grand General Leia Organa has founded the Sentinels. New heroes such as Finn, a renegade stormtrooper, Rey, a scavenger, and Poe, a New Republic pilot, must team up with legendary heroes to defend the Galaxy.

The damaged remains of the Resistance pile onto the Millennium Falcon and flee the planet Crait after a devastating showdown against the First Order. The weak militia celebrate survival, but only briefly, as they slowly sink into solemn grief of the many losses of their comrades. Commander Poe tumbles in guilt and quiet emotional turmoil as he faces his insecurity and the loss of his squadron. Finn waits by the bedside of a serenely resting Rose in a makeshift infirmary, but he is in no way serene himself.
