The Fifth Age dawns. The Eldar are gone, Sauron is vanquished, and all that remain are the kingdoms of men rising slowly higher into the future. To the south, industry churns in the city of Minas Dant. On the borderlands brew the seeds of a conflict unknown to Arda since before the Fourth Age. Tiel's messed up again. And he's running out of options. The Guild's only good to him when it helps them-otherwise, they wouldn't spend time on him: brutish, broke, and unstable. But the path ahead gets narrower and narrower. One day, he'll find that he's slipped just too far to come back. Or has he always been this irredeemable? Far on the other end of the sea, Haldanáro wakes up. Twenty years after his Return from the Halls of Mandos, he has yet to know either memory or identity. Rattled by taunting dreams, he takes a gambit-and opens his eyes to a new world. Yet the future is closing. Arda shakes and tremors; a war is coming. And they may already be out of time.

What if Eru did recreate the world and that's the one every knows. What if the world before there were a large group of people who got speared from the destruction. They now live in the middle earth that everyone knows. Yet, they are hidden and keep to themselves. Protecting the world from monstrous beings that are still alive from the wood they knew. They stayed like this for a very long time and they enjoy their solitude. Yet, now they have a choice: do they help Fingolfin and those who are following him across the Helcaraxë and change the course of fate. Or do they leave innocents to die and stay hidden. ~I do not own the silmarillion

Ellerína Altaríel is the descendant of two Eldarian houses, estranged by millennia of war and kinslayings. As the War of the Ring rages on in the East, she fights alongside the elves of Lothlorien and Mirkwood to keep the Sauron's armies at bay. When tensions rise as her true lineage is revealed, she must work to prove herself a daughter of kings. An ode to Tolkien's work and world that keeps somehow getting better every time I throw it out in despair and then come back to it months later. *sigh* **I do not own The Silmarillion or the Lord of the Rings. 'Elthríel listened with rapt attention as Finrod, laying on his back and staring at the clear sky above him, spoke about the beauty of the Trees of Valinor. He rarely spoke to her now, not that he had ever made a habit to talk with her, but this was the first time she had ever hear him talk about the days in Valinor, now seeming so long ago. She had never heard him speak of those days with anyone. 'Since the days held captive in the dungeons of Morgoth, any memory of the beauty and brightness of the days in Valinor seemed like a distant dream, half-forgotten. But when she heard Finrod speak of them, they seemed at once real and alive; she felt that she only had to stretch forth her hand and touch the leaves of Laurelin.' Fading Light follows, for the most part, the tale of The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien, so if you haven't read it yet, I would encourage you to do so. :D Hopefully you like this story! A prose re-telling of J.R.R. Tolkien's Lay of Leithian, this relates the full story of the love and labors of Beren and Luthien in the First Age of Middle-earth. This is aimed primarily at Tolkien fans who want the full story but who do not want to read the original Lay. I have tried to keep my own intrusions to the minimum necessary in order to keep the story moving, and I have also tried to capture both the style and spirit of the original Lay in prose form as much as possible. I have used other sources, most notably The History of Middle-earth book series, for where the Lay ends uncompleted. This manuscript was originally completed in 1997, revised considerably in 2009, and is returning to the Internet in 2017 after an eight-year hiatus. It is my gift to Tolkien fandom. No infringement intended and implied (and all that), and I hope it remains both free and freely available to all from now on.
