A poem about the dehumanisation of the Gas Mask in the First World War and how it caused a barrier between the massacre the soldiers were committing and their point of view through the mask.

During the holiday season of 1914, after the First World War had ground down into a stalemate, something remarkable happened: men from both sides crossed into No Man's Land and celebrated Christmas together. In the following interview, you'll experience this legendary moment in history through the eyes of First World War veteran Simon Bennington, who served with the British Expeditionary Force near Ypres. This is one of my oldest stories, written all the way back in 2013 as an assignment for my creative writing class, and I'm pleased to share it with you as a sort of Christmas present.

"The last time I saw my mother was in a railway station in Chicago, Illinois. It was two years after my Daddy went to the war, and seven years ago. I ain't seen her since then, and now I guess I won't. " In 1918, a seven-year-old feels betrayed when the influenza epidemic forces his mother to send him from Chicago to live in the country.

(beginning of diary 1901-end of diary 1914) This is a short story,the diary of a soldier from the British army named Charles.He starts writing in his diary when queen Victoria dies,the start of the Edwardian Era.Everything he writes in his diary happens during the Edwardian era and the end takes place at the beginning of World War 1.It's an open ending,which lets the readers decide whatever they want about it.

Emily has dreamed about this world her whole life and feels an irresistible connection to it; she is also drawn to the handsome but tortured First World War soldier Luke Edensor, the boy from her dreams who Emily is starting to fall in love with… However Emily does not want to forget her home and is also desperate to return to her life in Pennbrooke, worried about her vulnerable mum. And there might be a way home though only if Emily truly desires it and is strong enough to make the attempt. Although something is not quite right in the Borderlands, for in this seemingly, peaceful and idyllic world, someone has been watching Emily for a long time, a hidden danger growing in the shadows and a fate that has been awaiting Emily Weston from the moment she arrived in this world. Will Emily be able to unlock the mystery surrounding her childhood meeting with Luke Edensor and discover the truth about their shared history? And will George, Luke and Emily be timeless forever or will the three of them be able to find a way to leave the Borderlands and discover abilities within themselves beyond their imaginings? Though even in a timeless world time is running out for Emily and her friends who must decide whether or not to make a stand and fight for their existence. Though ultimately torn between two worlds will Emily Weston be able to return to her own time and leave Luke Edensor behind forever?

A tribute to those who fought in the First World War, specifically the Battle of the Somme. This story was written at the time of the centenary of the first day of the Somme in July 2016, and tells the story of a young girl, showing her perspectives and the events that changed her life forever.

Milo and his best friends Ophelia, Ella and Theo are on their way to London for a study visit at the Royal Collection Trust and to explore the streets of the capitol. But at the museum Milo finds a diary on the floor, completely empty of words. As the evening creeps up, words are being written in the diary and suddenly the four friends are magically transported to a time of revolution, war and a family in danger in Russia 1917. Milo appears in the court, and his friends turn up outside of the Alexander Palace. If the four friends are ever going to get home again they need to find each other and the one who wrote the diary, but will they?

Lady Sibil's diary told us the hard life during the First World War. Inspired by the series Downton Abbey realised by Julian Fellowes and by the book Là où tombent les anges by Charlotte Bousquet

1915. Europe has pledged herself into a catastrophic war. It is the Great War. Every nation chooses a side with either the Entente or the Central Powers. Our story takes place in the region where it all started, in the Balkans. Specifically every Balkan nation is fighting. All except one. Greece. You see at this point of time the young Kingdom of Greece has been victorious in the Balkan Wars against its enemies, the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Bulgaria. Now however , Greece has to make a choice : Joining the Entente or the Central Powers. There are two powerful men however who represent each ideology : King Constantine I who supports neutrality in favour of the German Empire and the Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos who supports the Entente. Their conflict would lead the tiny country onto series of vendettas infighting and the testament of the Greek people in an event were a country was split in half. You can call it a Schism. A National Schism to be more accurate. All images belong to their respective owners!!!

During the midst of the First World War, a young woman holds dearly to the only thing that gives her hope: her lover's letters from war.

They said that The First World War would be over by Christmas; but, which one? 'Rain Along the Fire-step' is a book set in 1917, within the back-drop of The 3rd Battle of Ypres or 'Passchendaele'. The book charts the experiences of six disparate, fictitious infantry-soldiers the three days preceding their ascent up various trench-ladders and out into the mud and blood of 'No Man's Land' to, in dwindling-hope, reach those verdant green-fields beyond. The Battle of Langemarck, near Ypres, was a real battle; but none of the 'poor bloody infantrymen' who fought in it, are now left alive to attest to its miserable blood-soaked drama. It is therefore sincerely hoped by the author, that through these six fictional characters, this book in some very-small way, could go towards honouring those soldiers who did fight and who could very-well have been them.
