In the chaos of 1914, as the world descends into the bloodiest war in history, two strangers meet where they least expect it - between the silence of the guns. James Whitmore, a young British soldier, has seen too much death for his years. Elise Dubois, a French nurse, has seen too much pain for her heart to bear. When their paths cross on a battlefield drenched in mud and memories, neither expects to find comfort in the other. But in a world where tomorrow is never promised, love can be the most dangerous battlefield of all. From candlelit whispers to the roar of artillery, this is a tale of stolen moments, desperate letters, and a romance that dares to survive the Great War. When the bullets pause, will their love be enough?

During the holiday season of 1914, after the First World War had ground down into a stalemate, something remarkable happened: men from both sides crossed into No Man's Land and celebrated Christmas together. In the following interview, you'll experience this legendary moment in history through the eyes of First World War veteran Simon Bennington, who served with the British Expeditionary Force near Ypres. This is one of my oldest stories, written all the way back in 2013 as an assignment for my creative writing class, and I'm pleased to share it with you as a sort of Christmas present.

In a London café in the summer of 1914, James and Darien sit in silence. The world is about to burst into flames and change the course of history forever. Because they are both eighteen years old, they are certain they will be sent to the front and perhaps forever separated from each other. So before that happens, Darien proposes to James and together they make a promise that if the world splits their joined souls apart, they will meet again here in the same café after the war is over.

1915. Europe has pledged herself into a catastrophic war. It is the Great War. Every nation chooses a side with either the Entente or the Central Powers. Our story takes place in the region where it all started, in the Balkans. Specifically every Balkan nation is fighting. All except one. Greece. You see at this point of time the young Kingdom of Greece has been victorious in the Balkan Wars against its enemies, the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom of Bulgaria. Now however , Greece has to make a choice : Joining the Entente or the Central Powers. There are two powerful men however who represent each ideology : King Constantine I who supports neutrality in favour of the German Empire and the Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos who supports the Entente. Their conflict would lead the tiny country onto series of vendettas infighting and the testament of the Greek people in an event were a country was split in half. You can call it a Schism. A National Schism to be more accurate. All images belong to their respective owners!!!

Emily Weston has disappeared from the real world and is stranded in a place called the Borderlands, another world where time does not exist and you cannot age or die. Although Emily is not alone, there is a small, dysfunctional community of mostly young and unique people like herself, except they come from the past, from different era’s in time and as it turns out two of them George Leighton and Luke Edensor are the “history boys” who she first met as a child. Emily has dreamed about this world her whole life and feels an irresistible connection to it; she is also drawn to the handsome but tortured First World War soldier Luke Edensor, the boy from her dreams who Emily is starting to fall in love with… However Emily does not want to forget her home and is also desperate to return to her life in Pennbrooke, worried about her vulnerable mum. And there might be a way home though only if Emily truly desires it and is strong enough to make the attempt. Although something is not quite right in the Borderlands, for in this seemingly, peaceful and idyllic world, someone has been watching Emily for a long time, a hidden danger growing in the shadows and a fate that has been awaiting Emily Weston from the moment she arrived in this world. Will Emily be able to unlock the mystery surrounding her childhood meeting with Luke Edensor and discover the truth about their shared history? And will George, Luke and Emily be timeless forever or will the three of them be able to find a way to leave the Borderlands and discover abilities within themselves beyond their imaginings? Though even in a timeless world time is running out for Emily and her friends who must decide whether or not to make a stand and fight for their existence. Though ultimately torn between two worlds will Emily Weston be able to return to her own time and leave Luke Edensor behind forever?

The Emperor of Russia's four daughters - Olga, Tatiana, Marie, and Anastasia - are best friends as well as sisters. Being in an unusual position as daughters of the one of the world's most powerful men, sometimes it feels that they are each other's only true companions. They must savour all the time they have left, though, as they are rapidly changing from beguiling little girls hidden away in the palace nursery to charming young women whose names dominate gossip magazines with talk of which foreign princes they will one day marry. It is 1913, and the imperial family is celebrating three hundred years of their family's rule. The tercentenary celebrations mark the beginning of the last full year the girls have to just be sisters; to venerate their youth. But beyond the gates of the Alexander Palace, a different fate is in store for the sisters and their family. Europe is a freight train of politics and tensions charging headfirst into the modern era, and the House of Romanov, steeped in tradition and antiquity, must change with it, or else be crushed under the wheel of time. *** NOTE: This story is not on hiatus! Chapters will be written and published as and when they are ready, but there will not be a consistent update schedule between February and July 2020, while the author sorts out some "real world" shenanigans. This note will be replaced once a schedule has been organised.
