The ant colony has been free for seventeen years thanks to Flik defeating Hopper. The only things that changed in the colony were freedom of innovation to make a difference as well as Flik becoming Queen Atta's consort. The two also have three kids, Jet, Jade, and Fern. Fern, the heiress, is very stubborn and misbehaved and never gets along with her mother, who wants her to be a well behaved ruler. What makes things worse for Ant Island is that another rival species, the scorpion empire has conquered their colony, and the ants will do anything to get rid of them.

Flik has been a part of P.T. Flea's Circus for all five years of his memory. As a result of a curse, all that remains of his original self is the basic framework of a soul that keeps him alive. After the rebellion and the defeat of Hopper and his gang, Molt was now considered one of the Circus Bug gang and a friend to Flik and everyone else.
