Three heirs. Only one crown. Raised beneath the eyes of the court and the weight of expectation, Quinn has always known the garden would choose her. Her composure is legend. Her bloodline is secure. Her blade was steady. But tradition is never so obedient. Princess Harriet, sick with a curse no healer can name, trades places with Lunette, a girl who should never have existed at court at all. Stolen at birth, raised in shadows, Lunette now wears silks and secrets, standing in for a royal she barely knows in a world that would destroy her if it knew the truth. And Leni? Leni was never meant to stand among heirs. Wild as wind and storm, the overlooked daughter is drawn by something older, a magic pulsing in her bones, answering a call the others cannot hear. When the vine-threshold opens and the Choosing begins, the ruin stirs. Each girl carries a secret. Each path demands a cost. And deep beneath the moonlit branches, the garden watches, waiting to decide who is worthy, who is false, and who must be unmade.

Immortals have, as the name implies, everlasting life. Most are powerful leaders or businessmen, given all that time even the dumbest become the most skilled. Some start off dull, some very sharp, either way, they become powerful. Sometimes though they're born into power, the king himself is an immortal, all in the royal line are. However, not all are from this beloved city. A city made out of millions of clay buildings piled up to the clouds then made to float at the above them. The clay buildings are supported by spires made of black stone, an astonishingly strong material. The spires protrude from the bottom a little ways and let out energy that keeps the city afloat. The city is filled with millions of people, and among them the occasional Immortal. Destro, who goes by Des, was a normal boy on the streets. An ordered life and stability was something he'd always craved but had never been able to keep. Then one day he heard of the Establisher. The one who never gives ground. This man kept the streets under his control completely organized and stable. His group says it's purpose is to bring order where the government refuses to care. Des decided he would join the Establisher's clan. He has no clue however what he's getting himself into. In fact he will never have the chance to completely understand the full picture, the real reason the Establisher is in the City at all, for he will probably never live long enough.

I remember that day like it was yesterday. I was scavenging for scraps in the dump piles when I heard a yelp. The voice was much less raspy than everyone who lives down here and I was curious. I slowly crept through the trash silently, hiding behind a large hunk of metal. I looked through a small opening in the peice to see a girl around my age with curly blonde hair and impractical clothes. She looked like what we see in picture books found in the dump piles. There were bows in her hair and frills on her dress. She looked towards me and gasped, starting to shake. Then I knew where she came from. She came from the city, she fell from above.
