If you haven't read the whole Maximum Ride series including the last book, Maximum Ride Forever, then this won't make sense. Phoenix has a family. A mother, a father, her aunts and uncles. Then suddenly, she doesn't. When fourteen year old Phoenix, the daughter of Max and Fang, two test tube babies with 2% avian DNA, is taken from her family, she finds herself in the place her parents grew up and dreaded. Max is finally happy. The flock is safe, she and Fang are married and even have a daughter. But, Fang doesn't know if he is ready for all this. Fang runs away. Away from the stress, away from his daughter, away from Max.
