when i house was flooded after hurricane katrina, the owner of this house came back and made the inside of the house habitable (flooded!). he gave the owner of this house time to get on her feet. then he took his materials and went elsewhere. it was sad. but i know it's nothing compared to what many people have gone through. that the people here are amazing. i have never seen a group of people so giving, loving, and supportive of each other as these people. to see little kids helping to set up tables and carry things was amazing. to see older children helping little ones was heart warming. to see the women go and get their food or water was a sight to see. it didn't matter what time they went, they went as soon as the opening bell rang. they were in and out. doing what they could for those who were going to help so that others wouldn't have to. i had one of those moments. where you realize that you're not doing enough. something bigger is going on. if only we could all reach out and help each other. helping each other be strong and help each other be brave. is what they do. they have a system down. and they do it well. they may have questions, but the food is plentiful, the prayers and good wishes are flowing, the kindness and the joy are palpable. i've gotten to the point that i don't even look up at what's going on outside because all i see is the amazing work they're doing. they've even noticed the dust in my house.
