Imagine if only the richest owned and ruled the world and all the "grade" humans, called equinots, were kept in barns and treated as animals, mainly as horses. Named like horses, bred like horses, kept like horses. Most can't even remember or don't know anything about the outside of the barn and paddocks. Follow "Rosepetal Delite", DD, and her owner's daughter Sarah who has her mind set on freeing the people-ponies and restoring the world to it's original state of equal human beings.

In the blink of an eye your whole life can change. It happened to Tess, and the world when she opened her eyes again was a foreign place. After the accident, there was no Twister, her dressage partner and best friend, and Tess couldn't bear the thought of continuing with her dream career of becoming an equine vet. With legs held together by artificial joints and metal pins, her active and outgoing life is over as she knows it. But then a few years later, an old university classmate, Ollie, appears on her doorstep with an unusual request involving three rescued horses. Tess had sworn she could never have another horse again after losing Twister, but with nowhere else for these troubled horses to go she is unable to turn them away. And so begins the start of a long, exciting new journey with a horse named Diva, and a collection of rescue horses who seek refuge in Tess's home and heart. Similar to Twister in more ways than Tess can bring herself to admit, Diva is a naturally gifted horse, but like Tess she harbours her own demons and has a haunted past. Ok, putting on my serious face (shaking dust off it first)... This is a totally true story about my little horse who made history by surviving one of the world's deadliest diseases. So yes, it's got a very happy ending, even though I had to give him mouth to mouth a few times to restart his breathing each time his heart stopped... (to his nose actually) Dozens of vets told me I had to put him down, but I could see in his little brown eyes that he really wanted to live, so I tried my hardest, night and day, to save him. Our story is now taught in veterinary schools to help save more animals... if your pet has ever been to a vet for an operation, then your pet has already benefited from our story. (This case has also been studied by many students of human medicine, because thousands of people still die of this terrible disease every year, especially in third world countries, and where mothers are forced to give birth in unclean places like supermarkets or the back seats of cars. To catch it, all you have to do is scratch yourself. It happened at a very turbulent time of my life, when I was 16 and graduating highschool, getting my first job and trying to cope with a friend who tried to kill herself. So for passing time during my darkest days, I went from counting sleeps, to counting pay packets, to counting tears - one for each painful or really joyous day... hence the title: thirteen tears. Also, do you like the cover? I learned how to paint with an airbrush, just so I could make my own cover.
