Ayham is the girl you could look at with thousands of thoughts in your mind but it's impossible to get any assumptions right about her. You know that little kid who would do everything on her own. A little kid; funny, stubborn, disobedient but with that pure essence of innocence scared by deep rooted fear and pain. Ayham was that little kid. Nobody knew anything about her heart. She heard this one line so many times before but it never made her feel some type of a way. But as Jacob spoke, she felt disappointed. It felt like she knew he was no different. Ayham entered the room with a smile like she heard nothing. "Hey, I am hungry. Can we get some food?! pleaseeeee" Ayham said to Diana, her friend. Jacob looked at her and felt something for the way she said pleaseeeee. Diana laughed and said "what do you want to eat?" Ayham said "whatever you get me, I am too hungry to make a suggestion" and then started saying she wants something spicy but she also was craving something sweet. But she wants something sweet after something spicy. Then she looked at Diana and told her, "I don't know what I want honestly. Probably I am just stressed out and that's why I feel like eating everything but I don't really know what to eat. I mean just leave it. I will be okay." She acted in a weird manner like she always does. After saying so much in one breath she herself felt embarrassed. And she just got quiet. "Ayham, honey, you should eat something. Tell me, what you wanna eat!" Diana asked. Ayham was too embarrassed to say something. She replied "I am okay, I don't want anything" Although she wanted something. She wanted to eat a lot and know why Jacob never understands her. Why would Jacob find me suspicious like every other person? Why couldn't he just stop making assumptions about me? Would it be too hard for him to just take care of me?

A magazine I submitted to wanted a story that combined the idea of Forbidden Fruit and Mythology, and the story of Phaethon and Helios resonated with me. So I wrote a retelling of the myth from Phaethon's point of view, and this is the result!
