Mom's dead and dad's in jail. Sixteen year old, Palmer Mangrum has been shipped as an indentured servant to the backwater planet, Nero. On this gel-like water planet, they farm a type of squid for it's unique minerals. He made a friend on the trip from Earth, Brandt, ex-military cadet. Now, he is also an indentured servant with shuttle flying experience. They gravitated to the oxygen bar, A Little Soul. It reminded Palmer of home. Hometown bar rivalry explodes. The planet catches fire. What will happen to them? To his siblings, Kenley and Denae?

This thing needs rewriting. I think this was part of a contest, but I can't remember anymore. I remember it was fun to write.

My entry for round one of the Science Fiction smackdown. Pictures used: 3: Giant robot knight 4: Anime girl 5: "Angel" robots. 6: Moon behind city with water in front As a note to those unfamiliar with the smackdown: The Wattpad Science Fiction Smackdown is hosted by the joint account ForbiddenPlanet. The idea of this round was that each contestant was to pick four pictures out of eight posted in a discussion, and encorporate them into a science fiction short story with 2000-6000 words. The pictures I used are on the side in a slideshow.
