Between my tours, my father gave me a small, brown leather journal with the intent that it be used to help me get my thoughts in order, and in order to do that I had to record two things: the events in which I would be involved over the subsequent 6 to 7 months, and the experiences that had led me to that point in time in order to establish a baseline from which I could gauge my second tour.
