500-word story for the March 20, 2026 weekend write-in prompt - foreboding

A man is walking on his way home on a dark and foggy night in the city of London. He then takes a shortcut, but only to feel like something evil is stalking him.

In the past, people traveled only a short distance from home, but in modern society, someone can travel to the other side of the globe and be home in time for dinner. This ease of travel now requires people to spend many unwanted nights away from home, away from family and friends and safety. Sometimes a blessing. Sometimes a curse. Travel is eye-opening and exciting. It allows us to experience new places, peoples, and things, but travel is also dangerous. One never knows what he or she will encounter on the road, or sleeping in the room next door. This is going to be a sporadically updated collection of short horror stories with a common theme. What can happen when you travel alone?

11 short horror stories. The title story is inspired by H.P LOVECRAFT'S The Haunter of the Dark. Its a sequel of sorts based in Lovecraft's Mythos. The remaining stories are various flavours of horror ranging from extreme, macabre and foreboding themes. Dark poetry is interspersed between the eleven stories. This article attempted to examine the concinnity of humanity and what ramifications could it inflict.
