Mali is the story of a young Somali Canadian boy/youth who struggles with the pressures and influences of the environment around him. It is a story that explores the socio-economic factors that most Somali kids in inner city Toronto face. From money, drugs and a need for respect amongst his peers I try to tackle the real life situations that make Toronto a breeding ground for Somali youth to turn to the street life. From the rival neighbourhoods, gang violence, influences of drugs/alcohol and rap music, to all of the factors that have led so many of our brothers in the ground. Hopefully this serves as a lesson to all those who may have the urge to tread this path.
